The side effects of the serum Kyoko had injected into Kazuya to bring him back from the dead had come quicker than neither she nor the scientists had foreseen or predicted. The only initial side effect had only been his hair turning dark blue, and later on, after he and Emily had broken up, his eyes turning hawk-like. This time however, was worse than that... far worse. Having found his older sister and reunited with her, she watched out for him, just like when they were little. Sending for their private jet, Kazuya was flown to Tokyo, Japan. He was then rushed to a private hospital, one that catered to the Hikari family... and only the Hikari family. The effects had already settled in, burns had already appeared all over Kazuya's entire body, if something was not done, he would end up dying for real this time. He had already been gone for an entire week, his official excuse for his leave was he had been requested to return to Japan to study, leaving San Diego for good.
And on that same day, a new life emerged.

Darkness. Never ending darkness. So this was what blind people were forced to look at everyday of their lives. A dark tunnel that never seemed to end. What a terrible fate, forced on to them unwillingly. He continued to stare into the dark tunnel, until he felt he had to open his eyes, anything to get away from the darkness. Slowly, he opened his eyes, the light blinding him, making him wince, until he adjusted to the brightness. At first he didn't recognize his surroundings, everything around him was white. Talk about monotone, where am I? Looking around groggily, to his left, he was facing a window that gave him a good view of the city below, then looked to his right, and saw and saw his sister sleeping in the chair beside him. He tried to sit up, but a sharp pain coursed through his body, making him wince and cry out in pain, as his sister jolted out from her sleep, and cried out in shock as she saw him trying to sit up. "Kazu!" She stood up and rushed to his side, "Don't try to sit up, or your wounds won't heal!" "Arrgh... wh...where am I?" He asked, giving up and just flopped back on the bed. "Our private hospital, where else?" The side effects... it really did happen. Lying his hand on his chest, he felt bandages wrapped around his upper body, as well on his arms, pretty much his entire body.

Up on the observation deck, Kyoko looked down into the operating room, an unconscious Kazuya laid on the operating table, as the doctor and nurses prepared for surgery. With burns covering nearly his entire body, there was no other option but to do facial and body surgery. The scientists knew there would be side effects, but this was much worse than even they had predicted. But he would be saved. Only the best doctors and nurses worked in their private hospital, and she trusted they would get the job done. But from this surgery, a new life would be born, he would no longer be the criminal Kazuya Hikari, he would be a whole new different person. And only one other person knew of this... Kevala Katashi. Kazuya would always keep her informed of anything that happened... including events that involved him. The preparations completed, the doctor picked up the scalpel... and began the surgery...

Standing outside the main branch of Hikari Industries, the legacy of his father, Kane Hikari, he was still adjusting to the fact he no longer had a criminal record... and that he truly was gone now. He had been given a new life, a new identity... and a new chance. His arms and upper body still wrapped in bandages, he looked down at the new passport he had been given. He was no longer Alexander or Kazuya... he was now Jasper Wesley. He ran a hand through his short, spiky hair, after the surgery, he had been injected with a serum that was concocted to keep the effects of the first serum at bay, but as a result his hair changed to dark brown. Obeying Kyoko's stern order, he then got a haircut in what felt like a very long time. However, nothing would ever change his eyes, they were still hawk-like as ever. Giving Kyoko a sad smile, the both of them turned towards the limo waiting to take him to the airport. He was going back to San Diego... and the institute.
