Persona
Towards people in general, Alan doesn't really feel anything towards them. His environment never seems to feel real for some reason. It's hard to explain but just to concept that there are billions of people out living in the world doing their own thing just seems to surreal to be a reality. Direct contact, however, through means of verbal communication often separates the people he meets and those he helps from that mentality of his yet he's never really known anyone long enough to call what he considers a close friend. Calling them acquaintances would've suited most of those he's met much better.
Now although he's detached from those he doesn't interact with, Alan is anything but socially awkward. He's not a social butterfly or anything of the sort and is more of a loner if anything but his body language and verbal skills are top notch. Or at least as 'top notch' as a man who doesn't really understand the realities of the world would be. Alan doesn't tend to act spoiled and is rather down to earth about a lot of things but even with that being said, Alan doesn't really truly understand the fundamentals about society and how things often work. And so because of his lack of understanding he often tries to right the many wrongs of the world without really understanding that it's quite impossible.

Description:Alan's style results not from his own will but rather his parents. Alan was never really interest in fighting to begin with but with his doting parents worried about his well-being, they forced to him to attend a self defense class at a young age. From there that's where it all began. From the start, Alan never really enjoyed inflicting pain on others and hopped from school to school for the first two years until finally finding exactly what he'd been looking for. A school that taught it's students how to take down their opponents through use of submission techniques. Of course, Alan being a realist, knew that such techniques would still, of course, hurt his opponents yet he also knew that these same techniques would negate the need to harm his opponent anymore than he needed to. Alan's instructor, pleased with his pupil's outlook, trained Alan from the ground up. Course, having been around his pupil for so long, his instructor saw Alan's hesitation to harm his opponents and did well to rectify that short-coming. He didn't teach him that it was alright to hurt others but rather that if worst came to worst, causing harm to someone in order to prevent harm to himself or to others would sometimes be necessary.
Taking that lesson and others to heart, Alan's style is passive by nature but aggressive when need be. Having been taught the body's basic anatomy as a foundation for knowing how to cause someone to submit, breaking a person's bone is rather easy for Alan. Just twist that here and apply a little pressure there and a person's bones will snap almost as easily a twig. Though endowed with that knowledge, Alan will almost NEVER apply it regardless of the situation. He believes most situations can resolved with words so long as both parties keep a calm mind and cool head.
History
All the way from preschool to elementary, Alan held onto those very ideals as time both tried and tested them. Had he not learned to defend himself perhaps things would've been different. Yet this was how things how turned out and time and time again, justice prevailed where 'evil' had failed. Of course, things weren't really all that 'evil' considering his grade level but at the time it seemed very much so. Yet moving on. Alan's parents were as normal as normal could be. They had their ups and downs during their marriage as Alan progressed through school but nothing really all that significant happened between them. Yet although nothing internally happened to them, externally, the state of the economy left them worried. Alan and his folks had been living in California all their lives and struggled to endure the multiple economic crisis, that kept seemingly appearing from out of no where. First it was the failure of the banks, then the seemingly unavoidable stock market crash, and then lastly the whole health care bill coupled with the fact that their state's budget just didn't have the funds it needed.
It was all these factors and more that made them wonder just how long they could keep themselves afloat in this sinking ship they called home. Of course, all this was of no real concern to Alan at this point. His mind wasn't on his family's financial problems and he wasn't even aware of it even in the slightest. He was just oblivious to that which could radically change his world all while simply thinking about his new environment which was apparently called PHS 774.
