So that is when the city came up with a very simple, basic plan to try and solve all their problems at once. One school to serve them all. Sure, it came across as radical, out of place and somewhat strange, but when people really sat down and thought about it, it made sense.
Now, their would be no fights over who’s child went to which district, no mo divisions of funds, no more worrying about teachers having to relocate from one part of the city to the other just to find a job..It would all be in one place. It did not take long to get the approval of citizens for this new and innovative idea. Now, it was simply a matter of funding.
So the members of the school board and city government got to work. Many late nights in crowded board rooms, hashing out every detail and working out every possible kink that could be found, they finally came through with a proposal to take to the government. All their hopes pinned on a president who spoke of his desire to “better the education of today’s youth”.
Days went by with no word, parents and school officials alike sat nervously awaiting word if their plan would work or if it would fall through. Then finally, the call they had been waiting on came through, the idea so many had called ‘crazy’ had been approved and the funds had been granted to go ahead with the construction of a new, improved and hopefully more effective school.
And so was born Public High School 774, one of the largest schools in the United States. Teachers were brought in from the other schools which had been closed down, as well as from around the country. This school no only provided a boost in the cities moral, but a boost in the job market as well. It was a win, win situation. Or so they all thought.
But the one thing that was overlooked was perhaps the most serious thing of all. The students. Sure, their parents had been fighting over what district their child went to, but nobody had taken into account the many different gangs and cultures that had up until now, never been forced to mingle together in a closed environment…Many of which did not get along to say the very least…
Before anyone knew what was happening, complete chaos broke out within the newly polished halls of 774. Students were fighting, and riots were breaking out. No amount of force the teachers seemed to use was working. Parent, citizens, and students alike were outraged. It did not take long for this to catch the attention of the local media, and eventually went national. The entire country was talking about the chaos which was ensuing. In fear of looking like fools the government gave the school board a choice…They could either close the school down and reopen the smaller, schools throughout the city…or they could find a way to bring order to 774.
So, with no desire to look like fools themselves, the school board called an emergency meeting with all the teachers. It was during this meeting that one very meek, timid teacher by the name of Mr. Furnel, spoke up. He suggested the use of a system which the rest of the country had been slowly implementing over the last decade or so. The “Pillar System”.
After much debate amongst themselves, it was agreed upon that Mr. Furnel’s suggestion would indeed be put into affect.
So that Monday, when the kids returned to school, the “Pillar System” officially began. It did not take long for things to straighten out, though through it all, students started to be come stronger, and battles for the title of Pillar began to take place. Yet it a small price to pay for the peace that now seemed to find the school. Some fights were still bound to happen, but all in all the system had worked. Things were once more where they should be.
Now, Public High School 774 is a thriving place, full of students from all walks of life. Thus far they have managed to pass every inspection sent down upon them with flying colors, and aside from the occasional fight and the repair job here and there, the school is running better than any one could have dreamed…..
Under the direction of Mr. Durand now, it remains to be seen if things will continue down this smooth path they have been set upon…..After all, nothing is ever certain and nothing is ever set in stone. [/ul]
