Thai food... Thai food...
Her stomach whispered to her. And it whispered Thai food. For two days it pleaded, begged, cajoled, bit at the edges of Sam's conscious. For two days she held strong - she didnt need to spend the money, when she had plenty of food at her apartment. And her dancer's body wasn't going to stay a dancer's body for long if she kept giving in the the ice cream urges, and now Thai food...? But after spending a weekend unpacking all of the boxes and setting up the furniture in her house, she decided that a reward was in order, and so she was forced to surrender. Sweet, sweet surrender...
Thai food was delicious. Or, more specifically, pad see ew was delicious. Regardless of the fact that it had the word "ew" in the name, it was rare that Sam ordered anything else when she was in a Thai mood. And boy, was she in a Thai mood. She went walking, sure she'd seen a place not far from where she lived now. After fifteen or twenty minutes of meandering, there it was - Thai Basil. She walked in, made clear she wanted to get an order to go, and sat down at a booth to wait. Pad see ew with chicken, not so difficult, right?

So, new area means ya gotta check out all the new places to eat. It is a painful process, trying to replace all your old favorites with never-quite-as-good substitutes. I had done so already for Chinese food, Japanese food, and 3am burgers... but now, I needed to replace my usual Thai place.
Balls.
My former Thai restaurant was an all-time champion of deliciousness, but my research led me to a hole in the wall called Thai Basil. Whatever, it'll do.
My Camry took me down the street, treating my quite well unlike all the other 2009 Camry's that kill people. Hey, I haven't noticed problems, so I ain't ditching my car. I pulled my blue baby into the parking lot, snagged a space, and proceeded inside.
Luckily, I had thought ahead and placed my order by phone before I left. Pad See Ew with beef- a place of awesomeness. It seemed that no sooner than I arrived, the woman at the front announced-
"Pad see ew!" As he raised the Styrofoam takeout box in a plastic bag. I smiled and went towards the front, thanking the woman and opening the box to check it-
It was Pad See Ew chicken... Ugh, they fucked up my order.

Sam had her iPod in, losing track of time a little as she listened to the song she was supposed to be choreographing to as her first project at her new dance studio. After the song looped for the fourth or fifth time, a young woman came to her and handed her a bag. Sam reached in and opening it, intending on only taking a bite before heading back home, but - damn. That was not chicken. She looked up, calling to the girl who was now walking away.
"Excuse me, this is-" She barely got a few words out before she noticed the figure standing at the counter. It was an image she could recognize anywhere, even from behind. Who else would wear slacks to pick up Thai food?
She hadn't really been at PHS 42 long enough to feel any kind of connection to the place, but she doubted she would have even if she had been there for any length of time - it just wasn't any kind of sentimental place. It was the kind you got out of as soon as you were able. It was really the people she had connected to; a certain few anyway. The select few that had managed to make so many changes to her life in just a few months. This one especially. But it wasn't something she wanted to get into. She had moved here just to dance, and to focus on nothing but. Damien would only be a distraction.
But it seemed a little late for that. She sat down again, eyes wide and heart pounding, praying he hadn't seen her. She knew she couldn't hope to be that lucky, though. Damien wasn't stupid - or deaf. And she'd been raising her voice straight in his direction.
