Valentine's Day. February 14. There are a few reasons why the day was great, just as there are reasons why it was annoying. Let's not waste that much time listing out such reasons, eh? After all, only one mattered to the young Junior. Cain Aurelius would sit upon his couch at home, looking out the window. It was February 11 and he still had a date for the fated day. It frustrated him. Yes, people, even the fight-loving adrenaline junkie better known as Cain considered days like this important ones. And being single for the day of love was an annoying realisation for him.
It had never happened before, after all. Back in #552, Cain was quite a popular individual in that he knew a lot of girls, and a lot of girls knew him. So, of course, he would not have that much trouble getting himself a date. However, he was no longer in #552. He was in #774, and here, he was fresh meat. He was a stranger and he had very little friends, much less those who were female. Hell, so far, he only had a single friend. Genesia. As easy as it would be to be with Genesia for Valentine, Cain wanted to try and get to know more people. Valentine's Day seemed like a good time to do so, after all.
Now, who could he ask? He thought back of his classes, recalling every girl that he had classes. It was a hard task, of course, since there was a lot of names, but cutting the list down to just those that were attractive was considerably easy. Cain had pretty high standards, after all. Now, looking at the list, it seemed that Cain had three choices. Well, there was Amy from Chemistry class. She was a beautiful and smart girl, though Cain had never met her properly before. They had only talked once and it was only cause Amy was asking Cain for an explanation on a term. And it only took about fifteen seconds. A simple conversation of no importance.
There was also Kitty from his English class. A girl who was pretty much one of those rebellious tough girls. As badass as she was, however, she was still an attractive girl. And one with great figure, too. Cain knew it would be hard, but he may just succeed getting her to say yes. And for the last one? Well, there was Angelica from Maths. She was one of those silent types who did not have many friends, but she was undeniably adorable. So, Cain had three choices. Which one, and how?
Well, Cain could always ask all three and see which one says yes first, right? Cain grinned at that thought. It was going to cost a lot, but after winning in his last underground tourney, Cain had a little more cash in his wallet for spending. With that in mind, he figured he might as well go for it. Giving a soft nod of his head, he confirmed his decision. Alright. He was going to go for it. He with a smile on his face, the Junior went to bed.
12th February, 2010
Cain walked into his Chemistry classroom, wearing a white polo shirt, buttoned save for the top and the sleeves folded up to his elbow. It was untucked, hiding the black leather belt that kept his dark blue denim jeans in place. His sneakers made soft tapping sounds against the tiled floor, his black EastPak backpack making soft shuffling sounds as it shoved against his back. He glanced around, his sharp emerald eyes soon spotting out Amy in the crowd. With a smile on his face, he discreetly dragged himself forward, actually sitting beside the girl.
“Hey.”
”Oh, hey. Cain, right?”
“Uhm, yeah. “
Cain smiled, as he relaxed himself upon his seat. Class had started, but the teacher had yet to arrive, probably being held in place by another disciplinary issue, one of the most common reasons that teachers were late for classes. Cain sighed, turning to look at Amy for a moment as she glanced into her mobile phone. Well, now seemed like a good time to ask, eh?
“So, Amy...”
”Hmm?”
“Valentine’s Day is around the corner and I was wondering...”
Now, for the corny move. Yes, Cain was going to take this in a way some would call smooth and others would define as corny. He reached into his bag, grabbing something that sounded like plastic, before pulling it out. It was a rose, held in place by one of those transparent plastic sheets to keep it protected. He handed it to her, a small smile on his face.
“If you’ll be my Valentine?”
Amy looked at the rose, giving a soft awkward smile as she let out a soft ‘awww’. Cain smiled. Alright, it had worked. Amy would take the rose from Cain’s hand, giving him a soft blush, apparently flattered at the romantic gesture. Cain simply smiled, waiting for the answer that he was so eager to hear.
”Uhm, thanks so much. You’re so sweet. But... The thing is, I barely know you so... I’ll think about it, ok? I’m sorry.”
Well, wasn’t that disappointing?
“Haha, it’s ok. I understand.”
Of course, before any more conversation could start, as the awkwardness starting to seep in, the teacher walked in, asking for silence. Amy hid the rose from view, Cain turning his attention to the teacher, considerably disappointed at the results, though not as much as he knew he would be had she said no outright. Ah, well. At least there was a chance, right?
And Chemistry class was over.
Cain passed his greeting to Amy, before parting ways with her as he headed towards his next class. Yes, unsurprisingly, it was English class. Hurray. Time to meet Kitty. The class was a short distance away, and upon entering the classroom, Cain repeated his process, sitting beside Kitty. Once more, Cain would smile and greet her. And once more, he would ask her that question, the same way except this time, there was no rose. Cain never thought that someone like Kitty would appreciate such a gesture, after all. It seemed, however, Kitty had a different reaction.
”Wait a minute, what was your name again?”
“Cain? Cain Aurelius?”
And Kitty would raise her eyebrows, a small and mischievous smile coming upon his face.
”I’ve heard of you. You’ve been making quite a name for yourself, apparently. You’re the guy who beat Trent down, right?”
Trent? Why did that sound familiar? Oh, wait, was that not the first guy that Cain had beaten to a pulp here, when he had tried to drag Genesia away to a ‘date’, or whatever he was planning. Cain gave a soft nod, unsure of what his answer would bring him. Apparently, luck was in his side this time.
”Haha, I’ll thank you for that. He’s one annoying bugger. Tell you what, I’ll think about it, and give you an answer tomorrow, alright? However, just to warn you, if you do plan to take me out, you better have some good champagne.”
“Champagne? What do you have in mind?”
”Anything is good. Just make sure it’s strong, alright?”
“Alright.”
And she said it with so much enthusiasm that it made Cain optimistic about his chances, really. This day really was turning out a lot better than he thought. With a smile on his face, Cain forced his way through an hour of English, before saying his departing words to Kitty and leaving for his next class. Yup, you guessed it. Mathematics.
His approach never changed, really, except Cain made himself sound a little more hospital than he had the past two times. After all, Angelica was one shy girl, reminding Cain quite a bit of Genesia, though Genesia was a tad bit more open. Hell, Cain had to wait about five seconds before she actually said hi back, but boy was she adorable when she did it. And the gift was different too. It was a small heart-shaped box of heart-shaped chocolates; a standard present for Valentine’s Day, but still an effective one nonetheless. What was her answer? Well...
“Uhm... I d-don’t know... I’ll... Uhm... I’m not sure...”
Ah hell. “Why don’t you decide and give me your answer tomorrow, eh?”
”Uhm... Ok...”
Cain gave her a reassuring smile, before turning back to the teacher as he entered, an inaudible sigh leaving his lips. Ah, hell, that went better than he expected it to, at least. Mathematics class was pretty much a bore, but it ended quick enough, Cain leaving Angelica after saying his goodbyes, before heading to the cafeteria. Well, that was all done. Cain’s bag was a lot emptier now. He grinned, still surprised at how much he had managed to do in so little time. Ah, well.
He had asked three girls, and all three girls had told him that they would think about it. It was not a complete disappoint, at least, eh? So, in other words, Cain pretty much had a 50% chance of having at least one date. That was a pretty high number, was it not? And whoever said yes would, of course, get Cain’s hand. So, with that in mind, Cain spent the rest of the day pretty much not doing anything.
Well, that was one fruitful day.
