"Why would you say that?"
"Well, generally the reason people say things is to voice an opinion, fact, feeling, or response."
She answered in a smart-ass tone. Of course he had meant why she thought they were alike, but the way his sentence was structured, he asked why she had said what she said. She knew it wasn't the answer he was looking for, and thus she smirked, dark eyes glittering.
Chihiro hadn't thought that they were more alike than she thought in the sense that they were exactly alike. She didn't know him that well, but from what she saw, she saw some vague similarities. This was interesting to her because generally she met people that she placed into a few different categories. Suckers, Assholes/Bitches, Boring, Useful, and Misc. Right now this boy was somewhere between useful and misc because he certainly wasn't a sucker or an asshole, and from their conversation he wasn't boring.

Well, generally the reason people say things is to voice an opinion, fact, feeling, or response.
"Tch.. I'm not retarded."
Kale's head would drop slightly, those eyes glancing down toward the watch on his right wrist. The time had gone by relatively quickly, he realized that lunch was on the verge of ending for the day. He had an 'appointment' to meet with someone before his next class started up. Hell, he had actually planned on finishing his food and meeting the kid during lunch, but obviously his plans had changed a little. His 'appointment' would just have to wait. Besides, the kid needed his money and Kale wanted his drugs. If he bitched, then maybe Kale would just have to jack his 'business' and take off for the day.
"Anyways.. I got some business to attend to. Gonna have to ditch you now."
Kale would wink toward the girl as he pushed himself up from the field and onto his feet. Bending over quickly, he'd snatch up the tray and remainder of his trash, sucking down the rest of his chocolate milk before he'd give her one final nod and then begin to walk back toward the back door they had snuck out of. His right hand would drop to grip the strap of his backpack before he'd lift it and toss it onto his shoulder once again. Just before he reached the door, he'd call back toward the girl he had eaten with.
"Catch you around, stranger."
And with those words, he would enter the cafeteria again, careful to leave the door rigged so it wouldn't lock.

"Tch.. I'm not retarded."
Chihiro smirked at this. Of course she knew he wasn't retarded, or 'stupid' as the term had come to mean. She was simply teasing him as she had been doing all along, and she knew he knew that. Their dynamics were interesting, a mixture of actual conversation with an underlying game of cat and mouse.
"Anyways.. I got some business to attend to. Gonna have to ditch you now."
Again with the ditching...couldn't he have easily said 'I have to go' or something? Bizarre, she made a mental note to keep his word choices in mind. Either way, Chihiro faked a pout, blinking her dark eyes up at him once before turning back to her normal expression.
"Oh, boo."
Was she really all that disappointed? Not really. In fact it didn't really interest her what business he had to attend to, for all she knew he might just have to go to the can. When he nodded at her, she returned the gesture, falling back once again on her back, arms lazily above her head as she resumed watching the sky.
"G'bye, snookums."
Stranger, they were still strangers. She didn't even know his name, though if she truly wanted to, she had her resources to find out.
But the question remained, should she bother to find out or pry it out of him herself?
