Devon had the first strike, even if his opponent gained awareness and prepared for it, the damage was still there. With his left foot pushed forward, and a firm base already made he felt confident about his follow up attack being sucessful because he could predict the unprepared mind.
While his target was at an odd position for combat there was only a few things the body did on instinct, one was back up to distance itself from the source of pain, and the other was to bend at the point of impact. Once contact was made he let his anger guide him, and went for the more aggressive approach.
Devon raised his left hand back toward a natural guard, and at the same time he was bringing his right around, his elbow bent to make a sharp point of impact as he aimed it at the empty space he expected the head to drop. The unexpected thing was the distance it dropped, and instead of the point of his elbow cracking into the side of his skull it would be more likely to his forearm shoving Kale's head aside rather then a full strike.

The side of his head would soon feel his opponent's elbow collide with the side of it. He'd wince at the pain that shot through his head, but this was nowhere near the end. He seemed to hold a little bit more strength then the school captain did, but it was nothing that he couldn't handle right now. His head would recoil to the side, but he wouldn't loose his balance. The reason was simply because his right leg would slide to the side to compensate, as it twisted to face Devon.
Those arms would have snapped out and looked to grab at the jacket that his opponent wore, and those strong arms would have immediately tugged the boy toward his left. As soon as the tug was issued, Kale's left foot would have begun to twist counter-clockwise and his right knee would snap upward and toward his left so that it could look to land a hard blow against Devon's left side around his floating rib.
From the first couple attacks he could tell that Devon was quick, but with the distance between them slim to none, his speed wasn't going to have much effect at the moment. Kale was quick enough to hit him while they were so close. It seemed a little stupid that things had turned out this way, but Kale would blow off his steam and then see if he could stand to still be around the kid. If not, he'd just have to go somewhere else for his weed.

Devon was in a rhythm he knew all too well. Pushing through was easy when the head recoiled to the side, leaving him the perfect opening to continue his normal routine, partially because he had to reset his balance to a wider stance.
While Kale thought to use his superior size, Devon wasted no time in using superior tactics and position. He brought his arm back in a fast hammer strike to the side of Kale's neck and side of the head. Having driven his weight into it he would set the balance issue back into place, while he hooked his arm down around the neck to lock it.

Kale's arms still would have shot to grab at Devon's coat, regardless of the fact that Devon's arm was coming back toward the larger male's head. It probably had an even better chance of success now. Kale would feel the blunt force of the blow land against the side of his head, but he wouldn't let it derail his new plan. Originally he had thought a knee would suit the situation, but now he was just growing a little more pissed off. Instead, his muscles would just tense and he'd hoist Devon up off his feet.
Kale's right leg would slide off to the side as Kale's body would violently whip Devon around clockwise, before giving two quick steps and looking to slam the kid into the lockers without letting go. While he was fast, there wasn't going to be an easy way for him to get out of it. It would all happen within a couple seconds. Kale planned to slam the kid's back hard into those lockers as those eyes narrowed a bit more.
