Demons Of The Night (Cain)

[Zen]

It was the third night that Zenevieve had fallen asleep in her new bed...the warm arms of Cain wrapped about her as she drifted off to sleep...Dressed in just a pair of undies and a tank top. She had thought at first that it would be hard to get used to this, but the first few nights had been the best nights of her life...With every moment she was near him, he drew her heart in closer and closer to her own. Every time they made love it was like the first time all over again...exploring each others bodies with delicate touches...As though they needed to have the other etched into their memory...Scared of what would happen if they forgot just one little detail....Almost as though they each worried that they may wake up the next day to find it all a dream......

She was happy, and though outside these walls she was cold and empty when he was not around, she at least had something ...no...somebody who made her feel human inside once more.....Yet she had problems, many of which he had yet to learn about, and though she tried to talk about them, she hated the look of pain in his eyes when she did....It broke her heart, and even though they had just met, she felt herself falling in love with him....though it was not something she would admit to just yet......She was too scared it would drive him away.....He was afterall a teenage boy...they scared easily most of the time....

Breathing softly, her mind was lost in the darkness that accompanied sleep....Another peaceful night, or at least it seemed that way...Until the nightmares started.....Her Father, the beatings, the nights he came into her room and the things he made her do to him.......Never sex, but the acts were......It was all too much.....It was her worst fear and given that she had held it inside for so long, it had led to several troubles in her mind......

Then, just as she began to breath heavily, her body covered in a thin layer of sweat, she felt a hand on her thigh, her mind unable to tell the reality of it from the fiction her mind created.....

Almond hues shot open as she screamed and fell off of the bed, landing on her ass as her small hands pushed her form backward, further and further until she hit the corner of the room. Her body and mind still asleep you could say, but her reality changed, everything around her appeared to be her old room back in Brooklyn.....It was happening again...or so her mind thought...The true horror of a night terror....Tears flooding her face as she shook her head and curled herself into a ball with her back pressed into the corner.......Her head lowering and using her hair to hide her face.....Terrified....lost in her minds illusion it cast forth upon the world she now resided in.....

[Cain]

And Cain was peacefully asleep, a soft subtle smile on his face as he had his left hand hand-cuffed to one of the bed posts and his right arm around Zen's waist. He was topless, clad then in only his boxers as he held Zen against his body to his left. Why was he hand-cuffed to the bed post? Well.... Let's just say that the two of them were a tad bit curious and playful that night. But onto more important matters, Cain had indeed found himself enjoying every second spent with Zen, even if they involved tears and pain, for it was those moments that he felt whole.

And then, despite his deep state of slumber, Cain started to feel a tad bit sticky. He let out a soft groan, his eyes clamping tight shut for a moment, as if reluctant to open. His arms and body felt weird. He opened his ears, hearing a set of heavy and quick breathing in front of him. What was happening? Cain pulled himself up with his left elbow, looking down at the sweat female in front of him. She was sweating and breathing heavily. Nightmare? Cain placed his right hand on her outer right thigh.

"Zen? Baby?"

The next thing he knew, though, her eyes would shoot open and she would scream, scrambling off the bed and sending her right elbow hitting his nose bridge. Cain jerked back, his right hand shooting up and grabbing his nose bridge, grunts escaping his lips. What happened? Cain recovered quickly, looking up to see Zen scrambling over to the corner, crumpling herself against it. Cain was worried then, as he came upon his knees, attempting to throw himself off the bed towards her, only to be stopped as a sharp pain came upon his left wrist and shoulder.

The hand-cuff.

"Fuck."

He looked towards Zen for a moment, before noticing that the key was beside her foot. Cain grunted, still on his knees on the bed, his left hand still hand-cuffed on his bed post. He looked towards Zen, then, reaching out with his right hand as he tried to stretch out towards her and the key as much as possible.

"Hey? Zen? Baby? You alright?"

Obviously not, from the fear on her face, which only served to worry Cain more.

[Zen]

She was seeing her room, the little light purple wall papering, the pink bed set...all of it...and her Father, sitting there, trying to reach for her.....Her mind playing those words over once more as she peeked up from her knees to look toward him.....

"Come on baby. Just a little more. For Daddy?"

She cried out as she tried to push herself further back into the corner, knocking a picture off of the nearby dresser and hearing it shatter at her feet......

"No daddy...please no more..."

She whimpered as she spoke out softly, tears falling down her face, though still her mind sound asleep...Night terrors just brought her nightmare into her reality....Something very few people know she had.....she was not quick to throw around the fact that she woke in corners half the time only to not remember what had happened....

Once more, the sound of her Father was heard, though the words were hard to make out, but she knew what they were none the less....Eyes shooting around, she grabbed up a jagged piece of the broken frame, eyes locked on the "imaginary" image of her father as she held it to her wrist.....A clear thread to kill herself and end it all if he continued.......

Feeling the tip of the glass puncture her skin, she only pressed harder, a pool of blood forming around the are....

"No more daddy....no more..."

Her tone soft, fragile and very terrified....clearly she was not herself at this moment....a scary thought for most.....

[Cain]

Atop the dresser was a photo frame and of course, the photo that was inside was of the two of them from when Cain had taken her to the nearby carnival. And she knocked it off, Cain followed its descent with his eyes as he watched it drop, the glass cover shattering to pieces.

"No daddy...please no more..."

What? Daddy? Was this foreplay? No, definitely not. Not anymore. The expression on her face, it was of pure fear. A fear that was all too familiar to Cain as for a moment, he envisioned seeing his father walking back into his room early in the morning. Though, that was not the fear that was being played right now. Cain remembered what he had pieced together from Zen's history and knew that his father was one of those psychotic perverts. Thing was, what was going on with Zen? They had been with each other for two weeks, though technically not together yet, and she had never done this before.

Was she having that bad a nightmare that it had traversed to reality? Cain furrowed his eyebrows. That was not good. She was probably seeing him as her father right now. He looked back at the hand-cuff. Gah. This was totally the wrong night. He turned back to Zen, once more calling out to her, but stopping as soon as she grabbed a piece of glass fragment from the floor.

"Oh, fuck."

Cain muttered as the two of them locked eyes, one worried and the other full of fear. What was Cain to do now? From the blood that had already been drawn, it was obvious that she was willing to kill herself then. And Cain was the threat now. He pulled his right hand back, pressing it against his head and brushing it back, his palm applying a whole lot of pressure on his scalp. He was stressed and confused, unsure of what to do now.

"No more daddy....no more..."

Alright, he did not have much of a choice, did he? He was going to have to get awa- The handcuff. He looked at the thing with much despise, truly never expecting the thing to be so much trouble. Well, he could always try something else... At that, he nodded his head and proceeded to lie down on the bed, hiding himself in the blanket. If she could not see him, she would think that he was gone, right? As long as the glass was gone.

Hopefully the picture of the two of them that had fallen on her feet would be enough to remind her of where she was.

[Zen]

Zen was still asleep, though as she dug the glass in deeper into her flesh the pain of it brought her about somewhat, eyes falling to the floor as the image disappeared, her Father gone......But now her eyes fell onto the floor, the picture......Still scared and shaking, she released the glass which had cut deeply into her hand from the grip she had on it, and reached out to take up the picture...her small finger tracing over her face and then looking at the one beside her.....

Cain......

She whimpered as tears fell from her face and she started to snap out of it....Eyes shooting up toward the bed...Not again...not another one....She cried softly as she looked around her, finally realizing where she was.....She had hoped in the last few weeks that the dreams had stopped, being in the safety of his arms had made them stop...why now? What was it that had brought them on......?

Stress? Of course...she had been under great stress as of late....Stress she had kept hidden from Cain as best she could. Finally however, her little voice broke free into the air, sounding broken and almost childlike........

"Baby.....?"

She was scared. Scared she had hurt him, or scared he would be so disgusted with her that he would throw her out....She had never wanted him to see this side of her.....Slowly, her bloody hand reached down, having spotted the key there, and she tossed it onto the bed.....Still too scared to move as the blood dripped from both the fingers of one hand and the wrist of the other....

Please dont let him hate me..Please dont let him leave me...

[Cain]

"Baby.....?"

Cain's eyes shot open. She was better now? Cain's upper body shot up, his left arm stretching back, kept in place by the cursed hand cuff. He turned towards Zen, his eyes still full and moist with worry. He would then see her hand shoot up, tossing something small and shiny towards him. Cain would let his eyes follow it, his right hand catching it as it came to him. He opened his hand, looking down at the object. The key. He quickly proceeded to unlock the handcuff, finally releasing his left wrist as he massaged it for a moment, before turning to Zen.

He quickly pushed himself off the bed, sliding across the wooden floor as he moved up on front of her, the glass pieces getting pushed aside as they left insignificant cuts on his legs. His hands would grab both of her wrist, his eyes still looking into hers as he lifted up her hands, looking at them for a moment, before raising his head up towards her. He was worried and scared, of course.

"Are you ok?"

Without even waiting for an answer, his hands would let go of hers as he suddenly embraced her in a deep and tight hug, his face burying itself on her shoulder as he took in her smell, a tear from his right eye coming to the skin of her neck. He sighed, pulling her body to his. He felt worried, scared and more importantly, guilty. While she had been there, scared to death and weak, all he could do was sit there, unable to do anything but watch. Hell, he was even the one that was bringing the fear to her.

"I'm sorry... I'm sorry I couldn't do anything."

Another sigh, and a brief moment of tightened embrace, he just wanted to do his best now to show her that she had nothing else to fear, that she was safe in his arms. He wanted her to feel safe again.

[Zen]

Zen stayed there, blood dripping onto the floor as he uncuffed himself and then was instantly there by her side, pulling her hands up to look at them, all the while asking if she was okay and what not. The worry in his face, the pain in his eyes, it broke her heart. Then he buried his face against her shoulder, his arms tightly holding her as she felt the warmth of his tear on her shoulder....

She whimpered, her small body still trembling as he spoke of how sorry he was....Shaking her head as her tears slowly began to slow, her head tilting to nuzzle against his own, and her fingers, the ones not so bloody, coming up to brush against his neck soothingly.

It had somehow become her thing with him..her way of showing she cared and attempts to calm him down...She had no clue if it ever worked or not, but she tried none the less....

"I...I am okay baby...I..have these dreams....they seem so real.....It is what my medications are for...They stop them ....but...I..I have not been taking my meds for about a week now..."

She spoke softly, she had informed him about what most of the stuff she took was for, and how she needed to take them daily.....He knew how important they were....

Yet she said nothing else, only curled into his arms, the blood from the cut on her hand continuing to drip slowly down her fingers....Her eyes closing as she tried to comfort him while at the same time taking in the comfort he offered her.....Her long hair falling in a mess about her petite frame....

[Cain]

"I...I am okay baby...I..have these dreams....they seem so real.....It is what my medications are for...They stop them ....but...I..I have not been taking my meds for about a week now..."

And her hand came upon his neck, a spot of which she had discovered to be quite sensitive. And it was, as Cain released a deep breathe upon her touch, his shoulders relaxing a bit and so did his grip. He let out a sniff, trying to hold in his crying then as he pulled away for a moment, his forehead coming up to meet hers, his eyes still closed and his mouth half-open, the Junior relaxing himself with her touch as a catalyst.

Yeah, he knew about her meds. And honestly, he despised it. He wanted to help her become more independent, to become stronger, to be able to calm herself down without depending on the effects of some pills. Though, he never found a way to get her to do so. He knew that it worked wonders for her, but he was also aware of the risks that every pill posed to her body.

He opened his eyes then, looking down at her hands for a moment, reminding himself then if she did not take her meds, she'd lose control of herself too. He sighed, truly unsure of what to do then. He grabbed her hands, letting her blood drip onto his as he gulped for a moment, before letting out his opinion.

"... I want you to stop depending on those pills, baby... You're strong enough for this, Zen. I know you are. Promise me? Please? I'm here, alright? There's no need for those... Pills..."

He looked up at her, his forehead still on hers.

[Zen]

She heard the soft sniffle that he let forth as he tried to hide away his own hurt, and again it broke her heart to know that she had caused him this much pain. All the while her fingers continued to brush softly against the side of his neck, attempting to comfort and sooth him, despite the fact that her hands as well as the rest of her body were shaking still...

Though, the longer she stayed there, curled within his embrace, feeling the warmth of his touch and breathing in his masculine scent, the more steady she became. It was amazing the kind of affect he had on her, and usually, when she was with him, she did not need he meds. It was only when he was gone, and she once more found herself alone in this world that the numbness started to take hold, making her feel once more empty inside, as though she was lacking a part of her that only he could fill.

Then he spoke, his words pleading with her as he asked her to try and make it through without the meds. She knew how much it bothered him....She saw the pain in his eyes every time she took them and somehow, deep down, she knew that it was because he could not do for her what they did. Because in those moments, when she was forced to turn to the medications to calm herself and return to some form of sanity, he was not able to help her. The one thing he had vowed to do and in those moments he was helpless...

Biting her lip nervously, she finally shifted her body so that she could nuzzle her head under his chin and finally allow it to come to rest upon his chest....Drawing in a deep breath before finally speaking....

"I know you do not like them.....But...I cannot take them anymore......."

She then reached out, grasping his hand and bringing it to rest upon her bared lower abdomen, just above the waist of her undewear......

"They would harm the baby....."[/ciolor]

She closed her eyes, as she waited then for his reply. She had known for the last week....but had been scared to tell him.....but now....she had not choice....he had to know....and now...he did....

[Cain]

Her body was shivering, Cain could feel it from where he sat. He looked down at her hands once more, his grips on her hands tightening, as if in a pointless effort to stop her from shivering by keeping her in place. It seemed logical enough, anyway. Plus, he was getting desperate her. Desperate to make her feel better. He sighed, pulling his forehead away from hers for a moment, his eyes rolling up to meet hers once more, as he leaned forward, giving her cheek a soft peck.

Then, she shifted, Cain taking it as a sign that she was feeling better from before. She would then rest her head under his chin, her breathe coming upon the bare skin of the base of Cain's neck, the Junior letting out a soft sigh as he wrapped his arms around her upper back, closing his eyes as he held her warmly. Well, glad the horror was over. She was safe now, and she knew that. Cain moved his legs from under him, ignoring the sharp pains of where the glass fragments had cut him. They were not bleeding, after all. They were just crimson marks.

"I know you do not like them.....But...I cannot take them anymore......."

Cain removed his right hand from around her as he placed on his left shoulder then, slightly pushing her back so that he could look at her beautiful face, a soft smile on his face. He was glad that she had understood him and agreed to not take them anymore. However, it hit him. There was something wrong with her words. As Zen took his hand, Cain's smile faded away.

Then, she allowed him a touch of her lower abdomen, Cain's eyes looking upon it as he wondered what she meant there.

"They would harm the baby....."

... What?... Cain sat there, looking up at her, his eyes and mouth agape.

"... Th-... The baby?"

[Zen]

Zen cast a timid look upward to him, and then quickly lowered her eyes as she nodded. It was all she could do, her hand falling away from him to allow him to withdraw his touch from her if he so chose....All the while the blood continuing to drip from her other hand as she captured her lower lip between her teeth, her nervous habit only increasing now that she had finally told him what she had been keeping secret for almost a week now....

Tears filled her eyes as she wondered what he would say, what he would do. Would he want anything to do with her? Or would he throw her out? She honestly did not know......Finally her soft tone broke into the air as she sighed softly and once more began to tremble slightly....

"O...Our baby..."

She then, despite herself, seemed to shrink into his arms, trying to hide herself in fear of his reaction. She could only think of that which she knew of men....And had she been telling her Father, or her brother, or her ex whom she had a lot of trouble with in the past, then she would have been in for a serious beating.....

Softly she whimpered, unsure what to say as she closed her eyes. She was already weaker than usual due to being pregnant, the blood loss, though not life threatening, was making her rather lightheaded......Something he should be able to tell by the way her body began to relax in his arms in a somewhat unnatural way....

The trembling however began to subside and her breathing eased...Yet she did not move or speak...Waiting on his reply as she slowly became more and more relaxed, a steady pool of blood beneath her hand which now dangled there freely, the cut on her wrist not as bad but still managing to soak into the shirt she wore which it was pressed against.....

[Cain]

And she needed her head, confirming his... Well, 'fears' probably isn't the right word to use for this situation. Perhaps 'surprise' was a better word? Well, it did describe how Cain was feeling them. Confusion, shock and worry were the only things that filled his mind then, as questions bounced off the inner walls of his skulls, constantly passing through his brain and annoying him utterly. His hand stayed above her womb, if that was the right term to call it now.

"O...Our baby..."

Slowly, Cain let his eyes wander from the wall behind her, a point of which he had been staring it ever since he heard the word come out from her mouth, to her head as it went down to his shoulder. His baby, huh? His baby... Cain moved into a state of flashback for a moment, as he remembered how he himself was as a baby. Pushed aside and left to care for his own, his father having lost care for him when he turned 2. A young age to be abandoned, indeed. Well, abandoned in that his father never saw him as someone who existed anymore, that is.

Then, in his arms, she felt somewhat light, as if relaxed. And to add to that, he was feeling a warm liquid touch his knee. He snapped back to reality, placing both hands on her shoulder then as he pulled her back a bit, looking at her. She looked weak, her eyes barely open. Cain's eyebrows furrowed, his worries and fears driven away for a moment with his concern for her. He looked down and saw that cut that she had inflicted upon herself. It was bleeding that bad? Cain cursed, grabbing the wrist as he lifted it up.

Yeah, it was indeed quite deep. A soft growl escaped his lips as he grabbed Zen's waist then, getting onto his own feet. He had to patch that wound up now or she was going to bleed herself to unconsciousness. Cain proceeded to lift her up then, placing one hand under her legs and the other across her back as he carried her to the kitchen. Once there, he would lie her down on the table, before taking out the first aid kit in one of the cabinets. Something that Cain always made sure to have.

Without a word, he would start on patching her wrist and fingers up.

[Zen]

Zen felt him lift her up, taking her and laying her on the table so that he could patch up her wound....She waited, drifting in and out of consciousness to say something about what she had told him....Anything....But he never did....Instead, she finally passed out, without a single word from him about the news she had just dropped on him.........

The next morning, Zen awoke to the feel of his arm wrapped about her and the softness of her pillow beneath her head....Apparently he had carried her to bed last night at some point...Looking down to see both her wrist and her hand bandaged.........Slowly she began to slip out of bed, not even getting a stir out of him. No doubt he had stayed up far too late worrying over her....

The thought crossed her mind to wake him, but then, she thought better of it....She still remembered the lack of words over the news of the baby.....she still remembered the worry that he would throw her out....Maybe that is why he had not said anything last night....Biting back a soft whimper she looked him over as he slept and then hurried to get dressed....She had to get out of there before he woke....at least allow herself the illusion of happiness for a bit longer.....Brushing her hair, she grabbed up her bag and headed to the door of the apartment.......

Then, just as she pulled it open, a set of hands shot through and grabbed her...One hand covering her mouth, the other wrapping about her waist as she struggled to get away. How had Erik found out where she was? His familiar growl sounding in her ear as she tried to scream, but only managed a muffled sound as he clamped his hand down tighter about her mouth.....

With that, he jerked her out of the door, her bag falling to the ground just inside it and the door remaining open as he drug her away.......Opening the back door to her car, he finally released her as he shoved her tiny form into the back seat...allowing her to scream out once before the door was slammed shut. She tried to get to the door, but before she could another set of hands wrapped about her.......

Her head turning to spot Lucas...Erik's best friend and Zen's ex boyfriend.....A grin on his face as he shook his head.....

"Shhh....Shhh....Princess...I heard you have been a bad girl.:

Tears filled her eyes as she tried to pull away from him, but by then Erik had already started the car and was driving off.......Casting a look back over his shoulder toward his baby sister....

"I told you what would happen if you upset mom again...Didnt I!?!"

She whimpered out, shrinking away as tears flowed down her face.....

~~~~~10:35 P.M That Night~~~~~

The girl that had been brought in and left in the ER now laid in the hospital bed....She had several broken ribs, bruises over most of her body and a fractured skull...Both arms were fractured in a way that seemed to show she had been trying to protect herself.......She had no ID on her, nor did she have any identifying marks other than the celtic cross tattoo she had on her right hip.....The guy who had dropped her off had given no name, and when asked what happened, he had simply said "it wasnt supposed to go this far"...panic in his eyes as he demanded that they save her.............

Lucas....for all his faults had stopped Erik before he could continue going...The humiliation of the entire thing she had brought upon him and his mother.....it had been greater than even Lucas could have guessed.....

Once he left the hospital, he debated on what he should do....he couldnt tell her family where she was, they would not care.....and as far as he knew, Zen did not have friends.......that left where they had picked her up at...supposedly some guy she was seeing......

So, Lucas did the only thing a coward like him would do...left a note on the door....

Hospital....Ask for Jane Doe with celtic cross tattoo.

Then he went home...content with himself that he had done all he could....If she didnt make it, or if nobody claimed her....then that was not his problem any more.....

All the while, the girl remained unconscious in the room....alone....

[Cain]

And Cain proceeded to patch her up, noticing that she had fainted, perhaps from both exhaustion and lack of blood. The Junior only sighed, knowing that he would have to let her rest now. She was probably tired and scared from what had happened earlier. And as Cain proceeded to clean up the wounds, he thought about what she had said earlier. A baby? Was it his baby? Well, it should be. She did call it their baby. Cain faltered not in his clean-up of her wound, but his thoughts was seriously fading to the side.

Could he actually take care of a baby? Was he really father-material? Cain never had a father-figure, so he was not sure how to take care of a son, much less a person. He couldn't cook, he couldn't even take care of his house. It was obvious from mess that filled his bedroom and living room. And then, he was done, the Junior sitting against the chair and letting out a sigh, looking at Zen's petite body. He leaned forward then, resting his head on her stomach, as if trying to hear the baby. Of course, he couldn't. Not yet. Cain would then get up and move to her face, giving her a soft peck on the lips.

And with that, he would carry her once more, carefully and gently carrying her back to the bed. And he would lay her down, sitting on the bed for a moment as he looked down at her, his right hand raising and brushing his hair back. What was he going to do now? He didn't even have a job, going through only what he had earned up in the underground fight clubs back in New York. How was he going to work this out now?

He sighed, succumbing to exhaustion then as he lied down. He still had time, he guessed. Another frustrated sigh escaped his lips and he proceeded to lie down beside Zen, then. His baby could wait. For now, he would just have to prepare for it. He let out a soft grumble, before closing his eyes, allowing his mind to drift off to sleep.

The next morning, Cain woke up and found Zen gone from his arm, the Junior sitting up in shock for a moment as he looked around, especially the corners, out of instinct, taking note of what happened just the night before. He raised his right hand once more, brushing his hair back, feeling quite cold without the presence of his other, despite it being the morning. He sighed, dropping his hand. Well, might as well go to school now, huh? Cain could only hope that she was there.

However, she was nowhere to be found, the School Captain almost ignoring his duties as he simply passed by three conflicts without even a bat of his eye, his attention and mind focused only on finding Zen. But no matter where he looked, be it the rooftop, cafeteria, classrooms, courtyard, everywhere. Cain's heart was aching. Where was she?

Even at home, the Junior could only sit in the sofa of his living room, waiting for the door to open and see her beautiful face standing there, smiling towards him and apologising for getting home late, but no. Time passed, and Cain could not bother eating dinner even. He simply sat there, with his elbows on his knees and hands cupped over his mouth. Where was she?!

And then, there was a knock on the door. Cain shot up, immediately leaving the sofa as he looked towards the door, waiting for it to open. However, it stayed closed and Cain furrowed his eyebrows. He was still clad a white T-shirt and his pair of denim jeans. Hell, he even had his sneakers on, not bothering at all to take them off. Curious and annoyed, Cain walked over to the door, opening it and looking out. There was no one there at all.

"Hel-"

Cain noticed something on his door then. A post-it note? Cain pulled it off, reading it. And was he shocked. His eyes widened. Hospital? He threw the note aside, closing the door behind him. It was not a stranger to him who the girl was. Cain knew Zen's body by body memory, and he knew that she had that same tattoo. She was in the hospital. He would slam the door behind him and break into the run. This was one of those moments Cain regretted not having a vehicle as he rushed to the hospital, his mind focused only on getting there as fast as possible.

And soon enough, he was there, getting drenched as the city of San Diego decided to torture him with rain. The wet Junior moved to the counter, asking for the girl with the Celtic cross tattoo. The nurse looked at him unusually for a moment, before Cain described her hair, and finally, she pointed Cain to the door. The Junior rushed to it, opening it as he accidentally shoved aside a doctor. And there, right in front of him, lay a battered Zen, unconscious.

Cain felt his heart drop out of his chest as he dragged himself forward, dropping himself onto the seat beside her bed, his eyes still looking at her closed ones.

"... Z-Zen...?"

But she failed to reply. Cain's eyes started to well up in tears, the Junior raising his right hand as he drove his hand onto his face, wiping away the tears. No. This couldn't be happening. For real. He lifted his face, looking down at Zen. Her face was battered up, and bruises covered the parts of the body that he could see. And then, it hit him, as his eyes reached Zen's stomach. The baby. Cain's eyes widened. Oh, no. His baby. Cain grabbed the sides of the bed desperately as he stared at her womb. Was the baby alright?

What was he doing? He was the father of the young fellow, but even then, he was unable to protect his own blood. And not to mention, Zen. Where was he when this happened? What was he doing? Guilt filled Cain like a flood. The baby. It was his responsibility, his role, his life. And he had failed.

"... Please... Zen... Please..."

Zen laid there, her body in so much pain that she did not want to wake up, it kept her in a coma for the entire time she had been here...Wherever that was.....No movement from the little female other than the shallow and slightly gurgled breathing that came from her lips.......

Finally the doctor in charge of her walked in. Introducing himself to the young man who was now there yet not bothering to give him time to reply...He had another emergency he had to get to and so he would have to make this quick.

"She suffered a fracture to her skull and several broken ribs. Her arms were fractured from being kicked, as is seen by the clear tread mark bruising on her outer arm...It is as though she was shielding something...though clearly not her face or upper torso....She has several deep cuts on her back and side along with a severely twisted ankle and other bruising....Yet her blood panels are good..."

He then moved, pulling up the gown that Zen wore and then pulling a machine to his side as he readied it....

"Blood tests show that she is pregnant, so I just need to make sure the baby is still alive..After a beating like that..it is never known for sure..."

He then placed a monitor on her stomach and and turned on the machine...Moving about until he heard the sound of a rapid heartbeat underneath it....Satisfied with that, he put away the machine, lowered her gown and left......

Leaving the two to themselves....

It was only then, that a soft whimper would escape the tiny female.....breathlessly whispering out a name....Unable to open her eyes.......
