Nightly Stroll (Jester/Open)

[Jester]

"Glad to see someone else understands what I do."

I gave her a warm smile- we now had an understanding. We were now on even ground, eye to eye, on beliefs. This girl was beyond the stereotypical dumb city girl- no, she had looks and smarts. Good to know intelligent people still exist.

I saw the gas station coming up in the distance... Finally, some Big Red. Thank you God.

"So, you were just in a bookstore, right? What'd you get?" I asked her. I hadn't read anything particularly good in a while and the need for a good book was growing. Hopefully, she'd have something worth mention.

[Zen]

She acted in turn by returning that smile with one of her own, following up to the gas station as she stuffed her hands into her pockets. Then the mention of the bookstore came into play and she shrugged softly.

"It took hours of digging but I found a collection of works by Walt Whitman. I think it was the last copy they had and it was buried under dust...of course...People in this town have no respect for classic literature anymore."

She shook her head in distaste as she reached up and tucked a bit of her hair behind her ear. She was in love with old world english and the way in which the words just seemed to jump off the page and fill her head with fantastic ideals and images......

"Ah, Whitman... Never one of my favorites to be honest- I prefer Thoreau and Emerson." I laughed a little bit, happy to actually have someone to discuss literature with. Few people I knew had the education to understand the depth of certain philosophers... it was an interest I had no sharing ability with.

We reached the gas station- I opened the door and held it open for her- common manners. I headed directly for the sodas... Where was it? Coke... Sprite... Fizz... No... Are you kidding me...?

This gas station didn't have Big Red...

FUCK!!!!! Okay, gotta make do... Uhh... Okay, an Amp- I'll have to get an Amp. That's fine- I can deal with this.

"Grab a drink- It's on me." I offered.

"I do enjoy their work but for me personally there is something about Whitman's work that reaches past the darkness in my mind and fills my head with a better time and place when the world was not so corrupt with violence and mayhem...."

She followed him into the store as he searched for a drink, finally seeming to settle on one and then offering her a drink if she so chose. Which of course she did....Monster...ah...such a sweet little invention right there.....More than enough to get her home and well....keep her busy for a few hours....

"Thank you."

Being polite seeing as how this guy actually seemed to have a brain in his head...unlike so many others she had met......

Ah, Monster... So, she liked energy drinks too~ Wow, okay, this girl is all kinds of awesome. Intelligent, reads quality literature, cute, and drinks Monster. Well, I lucked out tonight. Quality people DO walk the streets in San Diego.

I smiled, took the drink from her, and walked them to the counter. I pulled six bucks from my wallet- enough to pay for the terribly overpriced 16oz $2.75 drinks, and handed the Monster back to her after I gave the cash.

"There ya go hun~" I cooed. Then, with my drink in hand, I headed for the door, once again holding it for her as we left.

"So, would you mind me walking you home? Or are you bored of me already?" I asked coyly, faking a sad face.

She took the drink and smiled as she exited the store and popped open the to. His words and that ploy at making her feel bad only succeeding in getting a light giggle from her before she took a sip of that heavenly addiction of hers.

Then, graciously almost, she extended her hand back the way they had come....

"If you wish. It is quite a long walk. Not sure you can put up with me that long."

She offered up another smile and then started off in the direction of home. Content with herself to sip her drink and enjoy having some decent company for once.

"So, what would you like to discuss? I am open to anything really."

She smiled, always having been one to speak her mind, she really had no secrets...Well at least none that the rest of the world could handle knowing....The more private, darker parts of her life she kept hidden from everyone.........

"Oh, I think I can handle you for a while longer." I winked at her as we began walking. We both cracked open our addictions and drank... Oh... Amp, you delicious motherfucker... Sometimes I forget exactly how GOOD Amp really is... I mean yea, it and Cactus Cooler and the best things ever... but when you go without something for a while then have it again... you suddenly remember why it's your favorite.

"Oh anything..." I answered her question. "I meet very few people who can hold good conversation for long, but it seems you're one of those people. So, there's something intellectual... or more getting to know you stuff... I can deal with whatever hun." I smiled. "I just like having company. Having just moved here, I only know one person other than you."

Ball was in her court. Let's see how she wanted to play this conversation out. It was prolly quite a bit before we reached her place- too much time to spend in awkward silence.

[Zen]

She listened to what he had to say and nodded softly. She could understand that and agree with it even more. Finally with a light sigh she continued onward and tried to think of the best place to pick up a conversation.

"Well, who else do you know in this place? I have met a few people...Not many but some...."

Hell, who knew, they might actually know the same person. Doubtful given that she was sorta mean to like everyone she met who acted like an idiot...so yeah...But it was worth a shot.

Her almond eyes looking ahead of her as she checked the time. She still had a ways to walk and in this late evening, it would be nice to have some company....Another drink of her Monster taken as she sighed contently at the taste.

"Your school captain, Cain." I explained. "Was in a coffee shop the other day, reading Walden and working on a piece of my own. He came in, we had some coffee- He's a nice guy."

I had no idea if Cain was one of the people she chose to be mean to, and it was possible with his status, but I didn't think I was encroaching on unsafe terrain.

"I'm still getting a vibe of the people in the city- You and Cain are the only intelligent ones I've met yet." I laughed a bit and sipped some Amp. "I'm giving the city a bit of a trial basis I guess... A lot of my research told me that Chicago was a good place to transfer to, but since San Diego was so close, I had to give it a shot."

I looked to her- she was dressed a little too lightly for the night... though it was a nice getup to look at. "You cold?" I indicated my sport coat.
